Should we really support AI so much?
It seems that last year caught us by surprise when the speed at which AI evolved happened. Or it only seems so? I’ve been following, though only superficially, the emergence of LLMs since the release of the ChatGPT bot in late 2022. Everyone was talking about how cool and great it is, and I even made my humble contribution to its development. I borrowed my voice so that Gemini can be taught to understand prompts from users in Serbia when they address it. I rated the responses of different models to check for their mistakes, and oh, boy, have they hallucinated!!! I loved it. They can be so hilarious while they are in the process of “being fed”.
Now I just watch how it evolves without taking active participation in its development. I am sure nobody misses my absence. Ha! Nor am I using it as often as in the beginning. The clamor has quietened, at least in my case.
Some people are still in awe of its capabilities, as they are discovering what it can do for them. TBH, I was mesmerized, too. However, if I used AI to produce some content, I made sure to label it accordingly, so that the consumers of my content are aware that I used artificial intelligence in the process. In the beginning, it is tempting to see what it actually can do. So, I played with different toys starting from Flux AI and moving on to other models. Did I fall in love with its abilities? Yes, I did.
In the last month of 2025, we were witnesses to reels on IG and elsewhere, stating that AI will create more billionaires in the next five years than were made since the emergence of the Internet. I am sure it will, but who will they be? I am guessing people who are already successful business owners who just need to move them into the new AI architecture, and those who know how to build that architecture. There will be those not so savvy who will get the “crumbs”, teaching us to use some skills necessary to manage AI. We all know that some have already made loads of money by teaching us how to write prompts!!! All this reminds me of the Gold Rush in California; diggers rarely got rich, but those who sold spades and other indispensable items did.
I am both amazed and frightened by this novelty. (Don’t get me wrong, I love things that move us forward as society and make our lives easier, just ask my iRobot Roomba). The frightened part comes from the apocalyptic Hollywood films, where humans end up stuck with artificial intelligence that maltreats them.
I wonder how it will affect our everyday lives? To what extent will it replace us? What jobs will my kids have in the future? I read Yuval Noah Harari’s book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century and realized that tech is going to obliterate some jobs very fast, decreasing the need for certain professionals. I learned about UBI and how slowly it is being introduced, and with how much indecisiveness, or is it unwillingness?
After all that initial buzz, in my case, I cooled down and became aware of the necessity to introduce legislation. Where are we with it, anyway? From my modest knowledge, the laws are passed on to ensure AI aligns with the highest safety and ethical standards. However, in my country, they are not legally binding!!! Well, hello!
With the current rate of progress that AI is making, two things should be done asap (in my humble opinion). Get serious regarding legislation and strive to ensure that people, whose jobs became redundant due to the AI have some sort of UBI during the period when they are transitioning from one profession to the next.
What questions are bothering you about AI?
If you have answers to my questions raised in this text, feel free to comment. I’d love to know more about our mutual future with AI - because it is not going anywhere.

I have been doing a series on AI where I address some of these issues. Here is my next in the series on energy consumption, next week a tackle issues around employment impact on AI: https://chriswasden.substack.com/p/the-deepseek-paradox-why-chinas-ai
As a technologist (not AI or software, more general), I will get back with some extended comments, no solutions just additional things to ponder. Am in the middle of of something now …
